About Hope and Aston

The villages of Hope and Aston are located in the heart of the Hope Valley, one of the great scenic landscapes of the Peak District. Both villages are historic, having been listed in the Domesday Book, and with evidence of earlier settlements in the area including bronze age and Roman remains. Hope is located around the fourteenth century church of St Peter’s, while Aston is centred around Aston Hall, built by the Balguys family in 1578. The villages have a thriving community based on a mix of traditional local industries including hill farming and quarrying, combined with tourism and exercise in the UK’s first national park. Served by a railway station on the Hope Valley line running between Manchester and Sheffield, Hope and Aston are much appreciated by walkers, cyclists, climbers and other visitors to the Peak District, providing a base from which to explore the Dark Peak area with Edale and Kinder Scout to the north, and the White Peak area of farming villages and limestone valleys to the south.
